The Certainty of War with China

Back in late January 2023, this memo dated February 1, 2023 from the Department of the Air Force, Headquarters Air Mobility Command which was not intended for public consumption, made the rounds on social media platforms, particularly "X":

The memo with the subject line "The Next Fight" was written by General Michael A. Minihan, Commander, Air Mobility Command of the United States Air Force.  Here is his biography as it appears on the official website of the United States Air Force:

The key excerpt from the memo is as follows (my bold):

"I hope I am wrong. My gut tells me we will fight in 2025. [Chinese President Xi Jinping] secured his third term and set his war council in October 2022. Taiwan’s presidential elections are in 2024 and will offer Xi a reason. United States’ presidential elections are in 2024 and will offer Xi a distracted America. Xi’s team, reason, and opportunity are all aligned for 2025. We spent 2022 setting the foundation for victory. We will spend 2023 in crisp operational motion building on that foundation. If you want to know what the operational motion I demand looks like, look at what Total Force Team Charleston did in January."

In the section entitled Commander's Intent, he states the following:

"Go faster. Drive readiness, integration, and agility for ourselves and the Joint Force to deter, and if required, defeat China."

He does, however, state this:

"This is the first of 8 monthly directives from me. You need to know I alone own the pen on these orders. My expectations are high, and these orders are not up for negotiation. Follow them. I will be tough, fair, and loving in my approach to secure victory."

Not surprisingly, at the time, a statement from Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Brigadier General Patrick S. Ryder stated the following:

"The National Defense Strategy makes clear that China is the pacing challenge for the Department of Defense and our focus remains on working alongside allies and partners to preserve a peaceful, free and open Indo-Pacific...".

Notice that his comments state that the United States will work with allies and partners and not that it will work with China in an attempt to defuse the growing tensions in the Indo-Pacific region.

While this may be the official Pentagon stance, in fact, in a video on the Atlantic Council's YouTube account from October 2022, Admiral Michael M. Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations stated that the United States should be prepared to fight China "tonight" (11 minute 55 second mark):

Let's go back to General Minihan to wrap up this posting.  In a September 2023 article on Defense One:

...Minihan states the following when asked if the United States will go to war with China within the next two years:

"My assessment is that war is not inevitable, but the readiness I’m driving with that timeline is absolutely essential to deterrence and absolutely essential to the decisive victory....There needs to be tension on readiness, more than just ‘be ready tonight.’ You need to have readiness that drives urgency. The urgency and the action are paramount."

While none of us know what lies ahead, one thing would appear to be certain; Washington is preparing for it's next war and this time, the adversary will be an extremely capable and heavily armed nation which will be fighting in its own backyard to protect itself from outside forces that really have no business meddling in the region whatsoever.  While war with China would appear to be a certainty, a victory over China is far, far less certain.

Propaganda is Alive and Well and Living in Israel

Here is a video showing a recent appearance of Israeli President, Isaac Herzog, on Skynews:

Here is a rather blurry screenshot of the "official Al-Qaeda material" that was allegedly found on the body of a Hamas fighter as presented by President Herzog:

In fact, thanks to a tip from "X", if you search for Ramzy Youssef, this is what you will find on the Noor-book.com website which I have now archived here in case it should be memory holed in the future:

And, since it was available, I took the liberty of downloading the pdf which claims to be a "publication for self-advancing knowledge for mujahids" and contains a selection of photographs of Ramzy Yousef, one of the September 11th, 2001 participants as shown here and :

Herzog also presents a laminated copy of a page from the book claiming that it shows precise instructions on how to develop chemical weapons.  I have looked through all 30 pages of the booklet and can assure you that there is no graphic that looks anything like the one that he presents as proof of chemical weapons being prepared for use against Israel by Hamas.  You can prove this to yourself by downloading the pdf at this link.

So, basically, given that Israel has one of the world's leading intelligence agencies (the Mossad), this is the best that they could come up with to convince the world that their ongoing military operations against Gaza (and the West Bank for that matter) are fully justified because they are in an existential battle against Al-Qaeda and Hamas.  It took me about ten minutes to find Israel's "terrorist document" once I had the tip from a tweet on "X" which showed a screen capture of the booklet's cover.

Ironically, Joseph Goebbels, chief propagandist of the National Socialist Party of Germany would be proud of the Israeli government's efforts to propagandize the world.  Unfortunately, the massive pro-Palestinian protests around the world in recent days would suggest that lying to the world about the story is not the way to get support for Israel.

And, just so you know, Sky News is sort of backing down on its coverage of the story, actually admitting that the documents need further scrutiny:

Chrystia Freeland - Another Irony-Impaired Canadian Politician

It has become increasingly apparent that Canadian politicians, particularly those at the top of the heap, are showing clear signs of irony impairment.  Let's look at the latest example of how Canada's elected Liberals seem incapable of grasping their own reality.

Here is a recent tweet from the woman who is, in all but actual official title, Canada's Prime Minister and my favourite politician, Chrystia Freeland:

Remember this?

Note the shit-eating grin on her face when a reporter asks her about the freezing of Canadians' bank accounts:

So, who do Canadians really have to fear and what do they need protection from?  Canada's banking institutions or Ms. Freeland and her heavy-handed, globalist, WEF-driven agenda?

In light of her recent tweet, there are one of two options here:

1.) she so arrogant that she actually believes that voting Canadians are really, really stupid and have very, very short attention spans.

2.) she is really, really stupid.

But then again, it could just be a case of infectious irony impairment which seems to be plaguing the Liberal caucus.  It's too bad that there isn't a mandatory vaccine for that.

The United States Congress and the Azov Battalion - The Enemy of My Enemy

While the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is now relegated to page 16 thanks to the war between Israel and Palestine, there are still some interesting facts about Ukraine and the Ukrainian military operations that the government would just as soon that we forgot.

Going back to 2019, we find this letter to then Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo from a group from Congress headed by one term member of the House of Representatives Max Rose (D - NY 11):

In the Orwellian world that we now live in, it's not terribly surprising to find that a number of the signatories who are still sitting in Congress have scrubbed the letter from their websites.

The letter opens by noting that both the attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand and Halle, Germany were linked to a global, anti-semitic, white supremacist network.  The signatories to the letter are questioning why the Trump Administration has failed to include certain white supremacist extremist groups on the U.S. Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) list.  The authors note that "terrorism is terrorism" and that there is a nexus between white supremacists in the United States and in foreign organizations.  You might ask which foreign organizations are the signatories referring to.  Here are some quotes from the letter:

"For example, the Azov Battalion is a well-known ultranationalist organization in Ukraine that openly welcomes neo-Nazis into its ranks.  The group is so well-known, in fact, that the 115th Congress of the United States stated in its 2018 omnibus spending bill that "none of the funds made available by this act may be used to provide arms, training or other assistance to the Azov Battalion".  The United Nations has chronicled human rights abuses and incidents of torture in this group's relatively short history.  Despite these facts, Azov has been recruiting, radicalizing and training American citizens for years, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

The letter goes on to state that the massacre in Christchurch was a turning point since the shooter, Brenton Tarrant, claimed that he had trained with the Azov Battalion on Ukraine and wore a neo-Nazi symbol that was associated with the group including the Black Sun or Sonnenrad as shown here:

Here is the emblem of the Azov Battalion showing the Black Sun (in white):

Here is a photo of a female Ukrainian soldier who is wearing a brown-coloured Black Sun on her chest:

Interestingly, this photo was tweeted on NATO's official Twitter account as part of an International Women's Day collage:

...and then promptly removed once it was pointed out that the imagine in question was in poor taste (to put it mildly).

Here is a photo of the Black Sun mosaic on the floor of Wewelsburg Castle, Heinrich Himmler's home in Westphalia, Germany which became his personal centre for mystical powers for historical context:

In closing, let's look at a list of Designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations from the Department of State's website going back to 2004:

Despite the efforts of the Congressmen and women who signed the letter back in October 2019 requesting that Ukraine's Azov Battalion be added to Washington's list of terrorist organizations, it would appear that the group has been given a hard pass, perhaps because, since February 2022, "the enemy of my enemy (Russia) is most certainly my friend" when it comes to all things Ukraine no matter how many foreign terrorists they train.

Once again, the kakistocracy in action.

Volodymyr Zelensky - No Longer the Global Centre of Attention

This news article appeared on the Times of Israel website on October 16th, 2023:

This is how the story was reported on Ukraine's Ukrainska Pravda:

Zelensky must be concerned that "his war" is no longer grabbing the attention of the world thanks to the Hamas - Israel war.  Perhaps Volodymyr thought that visiting Israel during a war was a good thing to do given how many world leaders have visited Ukraine since February 2022, some repeatedly.  It would appear that the Israelis thought otherwise.

Or, maybe he's just worried that the arms being supplied to Ukraine over the past year and a half will now be heading to Israel and that Israel has come to the realization that actors don't provide much in the way of useful military advice.

Ukraine's conflict is now page 16 news and the sooner that Zelensky comes to that realization, the better for those of us that have political leaders who have spent billions of of our tax dollars supporting a no-win situation.

The Links Between Netanyahu's Israel and Hamas - The Intrigue Continues

As I posted here, there are historical links between the State of Israel and Hamas that go back decades.  While, given the recent actions taken by Hamas in Israel, one might think that these links are long in the past, in fact, this is not the case as shown in this article on Haaretz from February 24, 2020 which has been archived:

Here are a few quotes from the article with my bold:

"“Both the Egyptians and the Qataris are angry with Hamas, and they were going to cut all ties with them. All of a sudden Netanyahu shows up as a Hamas advocate, pressuring Egypt and the Qataris to continue” with the financial support, said Lieberman, adding that Netanyahu's policy is tantamount to “surrender to terrorism"...

On Friday, Doha announced that it would increase Gaza Strip aid as part of the efforts to alleviate conditions and increase stability in the enclave. Qatar has transferred the Gaza Strip over $1 billion since 2012 with Israel's approval, according to data presented by an international source to Israeli ministers in 2019.

As part of the improved aid package, some 120,000 impoverished families will receive $100 dollars each by the end of February."

Qatar has a lengthy history of providing financial aid to Gaza and shown here:

...and here:

Here is a quote from the second article:

"Even before the monthly financial grant announced in 2018, Qatar has regularly sent aid to Gaza since 2012. That year, Qatar’s former ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani announced a $407 million aid package for the reconstruction of the enclave. As of 2023, total Qatari aid to Gaza reached more than $2.1 billion. Meanwhile, other Gulf countries, mainly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have limited their support to Gaza to financial aid provided through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Several merchants in Gaza who spoke to Al-Monitor said that the Qatari aid was one of the main drivers of the Gaza economy during the 16-year-long Israeli siege."

So, once again, history would clearly show that Israel is playing both sides of the game when it comes to dealing with Hamas in the Gaza.

The Middle East intrigue continues.

The Indiscriminate Use of White Phosphorus - A War Crime?

Remember this from back in May 2023?

My, what a stir that caused in the world's media.  Back then, the use of white phosphorus in civilian areas was considered a "war crime" by the BBC.  Bad, bad Russia.

Well, it looks like it's happening again but this time, it's new players getting in on the white phosphorus act.

According to Human Rights Watch, this is what's currently happening in the Middle East:

Apparently, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has determined that verified video and witness accounts show that Israel has used white phosphorus in military operations on both October 10th and 11th in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip respectively.

Here is a collection of videos showing the recent use of white phosphorus against Israel's neighbours:

As background, when white phosphorus is deployed in military operations, it is contained in artillery shells, bombs and rockets.  It ignites when it is exposed to oxgen, burning at more than 800 degrees Celsius (1500 degrees Fahrenheit), creating a thick white smoke.  It can ignite anything that it comes into contact with including fuel, ammunition, structures and, most concerningly, human flesh.  Even small fragments have the capability of burning human flesh right the bone.  Tiny fragments can also lodge in the flesh and spontaneously burst into flames at a later time.  It can also be absorbed through inhalation, severely damaging the lungs, liver, kidneys and heart.

Here is a video backgrounder on white phosphorus weapons:

While not for the faint of heart, here are some photos of rather horrifying white phosphorus burns from an article in the Lancet:

...and from the Biomedcentral website:

Here is a FAQ sheet from the U.S. Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry about white phosphorus:

White phosphorus has two uses in military operations:

1.) as an incendiary weapon.

2.) to create a smokescreen to hide military movements.

Since military operations use white phosphorus as a smokescreen, its use is not always forbidden by international law because military and political leaders can claim that it was not being used as an incendiary weapon.

White phosphorus can be either groundburst or airburst; when it is deployed in an airburst fashion, it covers a larger area, however, its incendiary effects spread over densely populated areas far beyond where the munitions were deployed.

According to the United Nations Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects, the United Nations aimed at banning or restricting the use of certain types of weapons that could be considered to cause unnecessary or unjustifiable suffering to either combatants or which indiscriminately affect civilian populations.  Protocol III  aka the Protocol on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the use of Incendiary Weapons of the Convention restricts the use of incendiary weapons which are designed to set fire to objects or cause burn or respiratory injury to people:

Included in these prohibited weapons are both napalm, heavily used by the United States during the Vietnam War, and white phosphorus.

In total, 50 nations have signed the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects and there are 127 parties that have approved, accepted, acceded to, succeeded to or ratified the Convention.  Israel approved the Convention on Marcy 22, 1995 but has not signed it and has added the following declarations:

Israel as also stated that it does not consent to be bound by Protocol 3, the aforementioned ban on the use of incendiary weapons.  In contrast, both the Russian Federation and the United States have both signed and ratified the Convention as a whole.

Israel's historical use of white phosphorus suggests that it is part of Israel's plan to subjugate its Palestinian neighbours as shown in this 2009 analysis, also from Human Rights Watch:

Here is a quote from the 2009 HRW report with my bolds:

"This report documents Israel's extensive use of white phosphorus munitions during its 22-day military operations in Gaza, from December 27, 2008 to January 18, 2009, named Operation Cast Lead.  Based on in-depth investigations in Gaza, the report concludes that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) repeatedly exploded white phosphorus munitions in the air over populated areas, killing and injuring civilians, and damaging civilian structures, including a school, a market, a humanitarian aid warehouse and a hospital.

White phosphorus munitions did not kill the most civilians in Gaza – many more died from missiles, bombs, heavy artillery, tank shells, and small arms fire – but their use in densely populated neighborhoods, including downtown Gaza City, violated international humanitarian law (the laws of war), which requires taking all feasible precautions to avoid civilian harm and prohibits indiscriminate attacks.

The unlawful use of white phosphorus was neither incidental nor accidental.  It was repeated over time and in different locations, with the IDF "air-bursting" the munition in populated areas up to the last days of its military operation.  Even if intended as an obscurant rather than as a weapon, the IDF's repeated firing of air-burst white phosphorus shells from 155mm artillery into densely populated areas was indiscriminate and indicates the commission of war crimes."

In any case, Israel's use of white phosphorus for any purpose in the extremely densely populated Gaza Strip can only be described as a cruel punishment against those whose only crime is to live in Gaza.  History does appear to show that white phosphorus is one of Israel’s weapons of choice even though its use as an incendiary weapon is prohibited by Protocol III of the U.N. Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects, a key part of the convention that Israel cleverly chose to not sign.

Apparently, using white phosphorus during a military conflict is only a war crime when it's Russia using it.

Netanyahu and Hamas - Revealing the Tangled Web

On October 9, 2023, this article appeared on the Haaretz website, the longest running newspaper currently in print circulation in Israel:

Here's the key quote from the analysis:

"Effectively, Netanyahu’s entire worldview collapsed over the course of a single day. He was convinced that he could make deals with corrupt Arab tyrants while ignoring the cornerstone of the Arab-Jewish conflict, the Palestinians. His life’s work was to turn the ship of state from the course steered by his predecessors, from Yitzhak Rabin to Ehud Olmert, and make the two-state solution impossible. En route to this goal, he found a partner in Hamas.

“Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas and transferring money to Hamas,” he told a meeting of his Likud party’s Knesset members in March 2019. “This is part of our strategy – to isolate the Palestinians in Gaza from the Palestinians in the West Bank.”"

As I posted earlier this week, Israel's leadership has a long history of embracing the "the enemy of my enemy must surely be my friend" philosophy when it comes to Hamas.  So, how's that working out for thousands of innocent, injured and dead citizens of Israel and Gaza?

The tangled web between Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas is revealed.

Blowback - Israel's Connection to the Birth of Hamas and its Unintended Consequences

In light of the recent  actions of Hamas against Israel, a brief look at the origins of the Islamic Resistance Movement may help illuminate the geopolitical puzzle that is the Middle East.

Hamas is an acronym for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya (Islamic Resistance Movement) is one of the Palestinian Territories two major political parties with its rival, being Fatah which, in the past, dominated the Palestine Liberation Organization and currently rules the West Bank.  Hamas, which also means "zeal" was founded in 1988 by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, a Palestinian cleric who was active in the Muslim Brotherhood which was founded in Egypt in 1928.  The seeds that eventually grew into Hamas evolved from the Muslim Brotherhood and, according to papers released to UPI by the Israeli Institute for Counter Terrorism (ICT), was legally registered in Israel in 1978 by the Likud government of Israel's Prime Minister Menachem Begin which approved the application of Sheikh Yassin, allowing him to start a humanitarian organization known as Mujama al-Islamiya (Islamic Centre) which was originally founded in 1973 in Gaza.  Israel recognized Mujama as a welfare charity which allowed the organization to set up the Islamic University in Gaza, build mosques, a library, schools, clubs and mosques in Gaza and provide various social services.

Here is a quote from a 2006 article on Antiwar.com by Justin Raimondo regarding Israel's efforts to undercut the PLO:

"The roots of this Islamist group (Mujama) were in the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood, and this was the seed that eventually grew into Hamas – but not before it was amply fertilized and nurtured with Israeli funding and political support.

Begin and his successor, Yitzhak Shamir, launched an effort to undercut the PLO, creating the so-called Village Leagues, composed of local councils of handpicked Palestinians who were willing to collaborate with Israel – and, in return, were put on the Israeli payroll. Sheik Yassin and his followers soon became a force within the Village Leagues. This tactical alliance between Yassin and the Israelis was based on a shared antipathy to the militantly secular and leftist PLO: the Israelis allowed Yassin’s group to publish a newspaper and set up an extensive network of charitable organizations, which collected funds not only from the Israelis but also from Arab states opposed to Arafat."

Mujama's funding was sourced from oil-producing states (often funneled through Jordan), local zakat collections, expatriate Palestinians, and, most importantly, directly and indirectly from Israel who sought to blunt the power of Yasser Arafat's PLO which was a secular, leftist organization promoting Palestinian nationalism.   In contrast, Hamas' goal was to set up a Palestinian transnational state under the rule of Islam, similar to Ayatollah Khomeini's theocratic Iran.  Israel's ultimate goal was to divide and conquer Palestinians at any cost.    During the First Intifada which began in 1987, Sheikh Yassin and six other members of Mujama launched Hamas in about February 1988 to allow it to take part in the Intifada.  The first leaders included Ahmad Yassin, ‘Abd al-Fattah Dukhan, Muhammed Shama’, Ibrahim al-Yazuri, Issa al-Najjar, Salah Shehadeh (from Bayt Hanun) and ‘Abd al-Aziz Rantisi. Dr. Mahmud Zahar is also usually listed as one of the original leader.  Other leaders include: Sheikh Khalil Qawqa, Isa al-Ashar, Musa Abu Marzuq, Ibrahim Ghusha, Khalid Mish’al.

Hamas' principles as stated in their Covenant include the following:

"Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory).

The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. "

There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors."

After Palestine, the Zionists aspire to expand from the Nile to the Euphrates. When they will have digested the region they overtook, they will aspire to further expansion, and so on. Their plan is embodied in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and their present conduct is the best proof of what we are saying."

The Covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement dated August 18, 1988 also includes the following:

"When the idea was ripe, the seed grew and the plant struck root in the soil of reality, away from passing emotions, and hateful haste. The Islamic Resistance Movement emerged to carry out its role through striving for the sake of its Creator, its arms intertwined with those of all the fighters for the liberation of Palestine. The spirits of its fighters meet with the spirits of all the fighters who have sacrificed their lives on the soil of Palestine, ever since it was conquered by the companions of the Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, and until this day.

This Covenant of the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS), clarifies its picture, reveals its identity, outlines its stand, explains its aims, speaks about its hopes, and calls for its support, adoption and joining its ranks. Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious. It needs all sincere efforts. It is a step that inevitably should be followed by other steps. The Movement is but one squadron that should be supported by more and more squadrons from this vast Arab and Islamic world, until the enemy is vanquished and Allah's victory is realised."

Article Two of the Covenant states that Hamas is one of the "...wings of the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine".

Back in 2009, an article that appeared on the Wall Street Journal quoted Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official who worked in Gaza for more than 20 years:

The article also quotes David Hacham, an Arab affairs expert in Israel's military who worked in the Gaza in the late 1980s and early 1990s:

With the triumph of the Khomeini revolution in Iran, Hamas began to gain strength in both Gaza and the West Bank.  In a 2002 article by UPI's Richard Sale, we find the following:

"But with the triumph of the Khomeini revolution in Iran, with the birth of Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorism in Lebanon, Hamas began to gain in strength in Gaza and then in the West Bank, relying on terror to resist the Israeli occupation.

Israel was certainly funding the group at that time. One U.S. intelligence source who asked not to be named said that not only was Hamas being funded as a "counterweight" to the PLO, Israeli aid had another purpose: "To help identify and channel towards Israeli agents Hamas members who were dangerous terrorists."

In addition, by infiltrating Hamas, Israeli informers could only listen to debates on policy and identify Hamas members who "were dangerous hard-liners," the official said.

In the end, as Hamas set up a very comprehensive counterintelligence system, many collaborators with Israel were weeded out and shot. Violent acts of terrorism became the central tenet, and Hamas, unlike the PLO, was unwilling to compromise in any way with Israel, refusing to acquiesce in its very existence.

But even then, some in Israel saw some benefits to be had in trying to continue to give Hamas support: "The thinking on the part of some of the right-wing Israeli establishment was that Hamas and the others, if they gained control, would refuse to have any part of the peace process and would torpedo any agreements put in place," said a U.S. government official who asked not to be named."

I believe that is sufficient information to digest.  Israel's support for Hamas is the very definition of "blowback".  The nation's support for Hamas which was designed to divide and conquer Palestinians and destroy the Palestine Liberation Organization accomplished one goal; the deaths of thousands of Israelis at the hands of Hamas and the deaths of thousands of Palestinians at the hands of Israel's military complex.

Apparently, history is a far less effective teacher than we might hope as the mistakes of the past are continuously repeated by the ruling class.  Just ask Washington how their support for the anti-Russia mujahideen in Afghanistan worked out in the end.  Unintended consequences certainly appear to be a common phenomena among actions taken by the rulers, don't they?
