Is Big Pharma Co-operating on Vaccine Development?

With Bill Gates being omnipresent (not to mention omniscient) during the COVID-19 pandemic, I thought that you might be interested in this interview with Bill and Melinda Gates as found on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation channel on YouTube, noting that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has committed over $300 billion to the COVID-19 vaccine solution.

Here's the video in its entirety:

Note that at the 7 minute mark, Suzanne Clark asks Melinda Gates the following question about vaccines:

"We've never had a vaccine for a coronavirus and that makes people nervous about this time.  So I think the audience will be so pleased to hear your optimism for this.  What do you think is different this time that makes us think that the development will happen?  Is it this global coordination?"

Here is the key part of her response:

"It's the pharmaceutical companies working together with scientists from all over the globe in a very coordinated fashion.  We have never seen the companies come together in this way."

It is fascinating to see that two individuals with absolutely no formal training in either immunology, virology or vaccinology are regarded by certain influential organizations as having value to the ongoing discourse taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Apparently the Gates family expertise on vaccines and pandemics knows no bounds.

Now, let's look at how Big Pharma is "coming together" to create this highly experimental vaccine in an unprecedentedly short period of time.  Let's start with this list of COVID-19 vaccine candidates currently in Phase 1, 2 and 3 trials as well as those in pre-clinical stages of development and research from the website of the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society:

In total, according to RAPS, there are 42 COVID-19 candidates in Phase 1, 2 and 3 trials and in pre-clinical stages of development and research.

Now, here is a list of COVID-19 vaccine candidates from the World Health Organization:

According to WHO, there are 25 COVID-19 vaccine candidates at some stage in clinical evaluation (trial phases 1, 2 and 3) and 139 COVID-19 vaccine candidates in preclinical evaluation.

Here is a screen capture from the Biorender website showing the number of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics that are under development:

Given that there are roughly 160 COVID-19 potential vaccines at some stage of development with roughly 160 different developers involved , it is rather interesting to hear Melinda Gates say that Big Pharma is "working together with scientists all over the globe in a very co-ordinated fashion".  It would certainly appear to me that the companies that make up Big Pharma and the vaccine research ecosystem is doing whatever it can to ensure that its COVID-19 vaccine is the one that guarantees billions of dollars in profits, the same business model that pharmaceutical companies use as part of their modus operandi under non-pandemic conditions.
