John Baird, the Canadian Taxpayer and Barrick Gold

While it has received no attention from the mainstream media up to this point in time, a recent tweet by D. Matthew Millar is quite interesting, given that John Baird, Stephen Harper's former parliamentary pitbull and right-hand man, was travelling on the taxpayers' nickel when he met with Barrick Gold Corporation at their annual dinner in Switzerland on January 24th, 2015:

Russna Klosters is located near Davos, Switzerland which was the location for the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting which was held between the 21st and 24th of January, 2015.  This meeting was attended by Canada's former Minister of Foreign Affairs who resigned his position on February 3, 2015.  For those of you who aren't aware or who haven't been privileged enough to receive an invitation, the meeting with Barrick was held at Chalet Viti Levu, the Swiss chalet owned by the founder and former Chief Executive Officer of Barrick Gold Corporation, Peter Munk.

In case you've forgotten, John Baird was appointed to serve on Barrick's Advisory Board (along with Newt Gingrich) after finishing a "distinguished career" in politics, information that was released to the public on March 27, 2015 in Barrick's 2014 annual report as shown here:

Just in case you were curious, here are the expenses and details of the travel that were claimed by John Baird for the period between January 12 to January 27, 2015 which took him from Egypt to Israel and on to Davos, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia:

You'll note that there is no mention of Barrick in his rather detailed itinerary.  Not that there's anything wrong with that....
