While Washington and the American mainstream media are consumed with all things Kavanaugh, the world outside the Beltway continues to turn, particularly in Iran. Two recent news developments show that the tensions between the current administration in Washington and Tehran continue to fester, particularly in light of the recent terrorist attack on a military parade which killed 25 people.
In this recent story from the Mizan Online News Agency which is available only in Persian:
... Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani, the Friday prayer leader in Tehran, a member of Iran's influential Assembly of Experts and a former member of Iran's parliament stated the following (translation from Google Translate):
"If the United States fails, its bases around Iran will no longer be safe and their time will be black."
According to the Fars News Agency, Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani made the following comment at the same Friday prayer service:
"If the US and Israel do anything wrong, their military bases in the region will not be secure anymore."
Here is another quote from the Fars news story:
"He blasted the US and its regional allies for waging full-fledged economic, psychological and media war against the Iranian nation with the aim of spreading disappointment, and stressed that their efforts are destined to failure."
He also stated that it was important for Iran to keep its defense advancements secret from the enemy, a move that will make Tel Aviv uneasy and that by keeping their advancements secret, it will be difficult for American military leadership to direct any war against Iran.
Here is another quote from the Mizan news story:
"…(the) acquisition of new and advanced defense technologies and knowledge, modernization and reconstruction of defensive industries, increase of self-sufficiency factor, research development, utilization of industrial capacities of the country, strengthening of knowledge and software defense capabilities in dealing with smart wars, focusing on presence of forces People, especially the security and defense of the country and the revolution, and strengthening the mobilization of the oppressed, as well as providing vital passive defense, are among the effective actions of the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran inside the country."
In case you were not aware, the Assembly of Experts consists of 86 "virtuous and learned" clerics elected by the public for eight-year terms. These members elect the Supreme Leader (currently the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei) from within their own ranks and periodically reconfirm his standing.
Here is a diagram showing Iran's parliamentary system to show you his importance in Iran's political system:
Next, the Fars News Agency reported on a meeting between the Secretary of Iran's National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, and the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Nikolai Patrushev as follows:
"The Zionist regime is after continued crisis in Syria and has adopted certain measures to support the terrorist groups directly and target the Syrian army and those forces who confront terrorism," Shamkhani said in a meeting with Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolai Patrushev in Tehran on Thursday.
Israel "will face reactions which will make it regret" if it continues such acts, he warned.
Elsewhere, Shamkhani said that the unilateral approach and attempts to weaken the international organizations by the US administration is a threat to the world security and economy.
He added that collaborations between Iran and Russia to fight terrorism was a success, and emphasized the necessity of exchange of ideas on regional and international issues.
"Logical policies of the two countries in expansion of collaboration and balancing the exchangeable capacities in politics, economy and security have had a decisive role in managing regional crises," Shamkhani said.
The US use of sanctions against Iran, Russia and China is due to frustration over progress, growth and power of these countries, he underlined.
The Syrian army forces have on different occasions discovered Israeli weapons in Syria.
In a relevant development last moth, they carried out mop-up operations in Quneitra province, discovering a large volume of Israeli and American weapons, ammunition and military equipment of the pro-militants White Helmets in terrorists' positions.
The army soldiers found a large volume of arms and ammunition and military equipment in terrorists' positions in several villages and farms near the newly-freed city of Quneitra.
Western arms, American missiles, sniper rifles, machineguns, and food parcels made and supplied by Israel and some pro-militants Arab countries and military equipment of the White Helmet Organization were found in terrorists' positions.
Also in the same month, the army continued its operation in Southwestern Dara'a and managed to capture more ISIL-held regions, discovering a large volume of equipment of the pro-militant White Helmets Organization, including American and Israeli aid, at terrorists' positions.
The army's engineering units carried out a mop-up operation near the town of al-Shajareh in Hawz Yarmouk, finding a large volume of equipment of the White Helmets Organization at ISIL's positions.
The army soldiers further found Israeli and American aid packages of food stuff at the ISIL's hideouts and positions.
In the meantime, field sources said that the army men drove ISIL out of the village of al-Arezah near the Israeli-occupied Golan."
Lastly, Fars News Agency also reported on recent comments from the Lieutenant Commander of
the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Hossein Salami as shown here:
"I am telling the regime of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, who are the main perpetrators behind the sinister actions in our country and wish to bring insecurity into our territories, that you will not succeed in your attempts," General Salami said on Friday.
He reiterated that Iran will avenge the recent terrorist attack in the city of Ahwaz in the Southwestern province of Khuzestan," General Salami said on Friday.
The Lieutenant IRGC commander warned Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to stop their attempts to undercut security in Iran.
General Salami, meantime, blasted the alliance formed by the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia for their attempts to create insecurity in Iran.
The top IRGC commander pointed to a recent terrorist attack on a military parade in Ahwaz city, and vowed to take revenge the blood of all those who were martyred in the attack by tracking down the perpetrators in and outside the country.
"If you cross our redline, we will definitely cross yours," General Salami said addressing the Riyadh and Abu Dhabi regimes.
General Salami underlined that Iran has shown self-restraint until now.
He, meantime, reminded those countries seeking to create plots and tensions in Iran that they are not invincible, and advised them to calm down and stop intervening in Iran's affairs."
Given that Benjamin Netanyahu used his usual anti-Iran rhetoric (and his usual rather simplistic hand-held props) at his recent speech at the United Nations to get the United States and any other nation who would jump on board his anti-nuke bandwagon as shown here (starting at the 4 minute mark):
Here is a quote from the speech, showing that Mr. Netanyahu does have a rather sick sense of humour given the seriousness of his allegations:
"In May we exposed the site of Iran’s secret atomic archive. It’s right here in the Shuabad Distrcit of Tehran. Today I’m revealing the site of a second facility: Iran’s secret atomic warehouse. It’s right here, in the Turkuzahbad Distrcit of Tehran. Just three miles away. Let me show you exactly what the secret atomic warehouse looks like. Here it is. You see, like the atomic archive it’s another innocent-looking compound. Now for those of you at home using Google Earth, this no longer secret atomic warehouse. You have the coordinates, you can try to get there. And for those of you who try to get there: It’s 100 meters from the rug-cleaning operation. By the way, I hear they do a fantastic job of cleaning rugs there. But by now they may be radioactive rags. This is the second secret site. Now countries with satellite capabilities may notice some increased activity on the alley in the days and weeks ahead.
The people they see scurrying back and forth are Iranian officials desperately trying to finish the job of cleaning up that site. Because you see-- since we raided the atomic archive they’ve been busy cleaning up the atomic warehouse. Just last month they removed 15 kilograms of radioactive material. You know what they did with it? Those 15 kilograms of radioactive material, they had to get it out of this site so they took it out and they spread it around Tehran in an effort to hide the evidence. The endangered residents of Tehran may want to know that they can a geiger counter on Amazon for only 29.99$. As of today, that’s just four million Iranian reals."
...it looks like Iran's wishes to be left alone will be in vain.
