Smokescreen?

In Ottawa, things aren't always as they appear on the surface. It's like going down the rabbit hole, a really deep rabbit hole.

Is it possible that the whole Guergis/Harper "serious allegations" affair of the past week has been nothing more than a smokescreen that allowed Stephen Harper to "graciously release" a junior Cabinet Minister. If he felt that Ms. Guergis was a weak link and a detriment to his Conservative government, this past weeks events were a way of getting her out of Cabinet without having to admit that he made a mistake appointing her in the first place or that the Opposition was right about getting rid of her once she started to pick up bad press?

Hmmmm. Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?

  1. If that were the case, though, why was she kicked completely out of caucus?

The allegations against Ms. Guergis are starting to border on the absurd, and the media is beginning to turn this into a tabloid event (I think there was some story about her "wild past" on CTV or something). But for Mr. Harper to cut her loose completely suggests that there is something sordid going on.
