Ronald Reagan and Fair Share Taxation

In light of Mr. Romney's comments on the nearly half of Americans who don't pay taxes and who will be voting for the incumbent President, here are excerpts from a speech from President Ronald Reagan back in 1985, keeping in mind that, while not wealthy by Romney standards, Reagan's net worth of $13 million put him well in the one percent:

A quote:

"...no one is manipulating the system to their advantage because they are rich and powerful....after all, we're all citizens, equal in the eyes of the law and equal in the eyes of God..."

Unless, of course, you're Mr. Romney and his 15 percent tax rate on total income of $21.6 million in 2010.

  1. Reagan has a legacy so distorted by the Conservative idolization of him that we may never have a clear picture of the real man behind the television set beyond the elaborate myth now concocted around him. Did he really rid the world of commie scum? Did destroy or save our economy? Check out my portrait of The Gipper and help me figure it out on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/02/happy-100th-gipper.html with some Cold War Hollywood!
